LO2: Audience Profile
Imaginary Entity: Michael Smith
Micheal is a 18 year old student who frequently visits film festivals like Doc/ Fest and Rec: Fest in Sheffield (local). He is always looking for new and upcoming indie films as he is a working class student who can't afford to pay for high-quality Hollywood films at the cinema. He enjoys and has built a brand loyalty with company's such as Warp Films because of this. His favourite film is Dead Man's Shoes which is about a soldier who wants revenge on people for hurting his brother; he enjoys gritty urban films with themes of family and loss. He is also possibly a film or media student which encourages his love of creative indie entertainment. Although Micheal is a white-British male, the film doesn't cater towards any particular gender or ethnicity. In regards to gender; at an estimate the audience for our short film would be 60% male and 40% female. This is because our film features predominantly male characters. However plenty of stereotypically male themes won't be found in the film such as violence or guns. It is a psychological thriller with themes about family and brotherhood which could also be interesting to women. The them of brotherhood could translate to the female sisterhood quite easily for the audience and loss is something universal to both genders.
In terms of race; once again the story has no cultural barrier that stops it from being relatable to people from any ethnicity or background.
One demographic that could restrict the films audience is age; the films two main characters are both teenaged and older audiences may struggle to find common ground in their behaviour and personalities. Although brotherhood is something that continues as you get older and become an adult; struggling to deal with loss as our protagonist does is something that you would expect to find in a child or teenager. On the other hand our protagonists father is a smaller character but who still plays a fairly important part and older audiences may relate to how he deals with his troubled son. Based on all this the average age demographic would be 16- 21 years old; people looking for entertainment with not a lot of free time and little money to spare but is looking for inspired content.
So taking all off this in gives us an aspiring creative student who is invested in indie short films and is looking for exciting, unique experiences.

LO2: Script Research
Alien Script (1979) (screenplayexplorer.com/wp-content/scripts/Alien.pdf):
Silence of the Lambs Script (1991) (http://screenplayexplorer.com/wp-content/scripts/The-Silence-of-the-Lambs.pdf) :
Shutter Island Script (2010) (http://screenplayexplorer.com/wp-content/scripts/Shutter_Island.pdf):
The script we are writing will hopefully be heavily influenced by these three scripts. They will most importantly inspire the layout of our script at the majority of scripts follow the same conventions such as justifying the right features to their right places such as the edit decisions being placed to the right and dialogue being centred along with the name of the character (In capitals), the specific layout could be the 'Shutter Island' script as it's clean and simple. They also describe the characters in a few lines and also make sure that the dialogue fits the character, as seen in the 'Silence of the Lambs' script where the character, a Doctor who should be serious, talks very formal as seen when he says "Your bleeding has stopped", which fits his personality and this is something we have to do to our characters in the script, with them being teenagers they would have to be a bit informal due to stereotypical teens. The narrative seen in the scripts, in this case the 'Alien' script, have to be fluid and move on from one moment to the next clear and simple, which this script does by giving a detailed screen direction. This is something we will need to do in our script as it will help make it easier to make a short film from it in the future and make it clear to the storyboard writer what needs to be drawn.
